Chasing analytics instead of helping people

When you are a content creator on Instagram, Facebook, and X, you make content for the algorithm instead of making content for the people you want to help. You are now chasing analytics – what type of content gets more impressions and engagement, how to keep users engaged, what type of thumbnail gets more clicks, etc.

Most of the time, the algorithm values mindless entertainment and useless content. It does sprinkle some useful content here and there, but the majority of the content there are garbage.

If you are an expert who does not want to devalue your work, I suggest doing it the old-school way. Build a community in your neighborhood and actually connecting with people. Then just grow your community through word of mouth.

I also think blogging is still the way to go. You build your own website and post your content there. You can direct the people that you connected with to your website and if you have useful content, word of mouth should increase your viewership.

There is a mental health crisis now because of the barrage of mindless entertainment that glues people to their phones instead of actually connecting with real people in the real world. We need more useful content and creators who actually care about making a difference in people’s lives.
