I’ve been obsessing about improving in every sport that I do. I know that I’ll suck as a beginner, but I get to improve as I train and get feedback from coaches.
But I’ve noticed that I don’t always carry this mindset into work or business.
I expect to be the best at work on day one. When I make mistakes, I beat myself up, thinking I don’t have what it takes. But then I remember—when I started swimming, boxing, Muay Thai, tennis, or guitar—I absolutely sucked. And I accepted those mistakes as part of the process of getting better.
I wish to carry that same mindset into business. Every failure is like keeping your chin exposed when you jab. Every mistake is just like overhitting a forehand.
Progress is just a series of mini failures that eventually lead to your improvement. It’s okay to be frustrated. But know that it’s just temporary.
Years down the line, you’ll look back and see how much you’ve grown.
You will suck at the beginning. Then you will get better.
